Netmop has a unique feature that we haven’t seen in other web filtering software. The administrative functions are turned over to Netmop. The idea is that if you have an Internet problem, like porn addition, you can’t override the software or uninstall the softwaresimilar to giving the keys to your car to a friend before you start to drink. This is an interesting concept that may work for some people.
Netmop has limited features when it comes to overall parental control. They don’t offer overriding of block, which may be a good thing, and this software doesn’t have any time controls.
You are able to create customized settings for each user. You can access the settings page remotely from any computer with a browser. Some of the settings that pertain to pornography are not customizablethey are always on.
Ease of Use:
The interface is self-explanatory. We were able to set up user profiles and successfully use the filter within a few minutes after installation.
Ease of Installation:
The software was easy to set up and install. The only aspect that might be an inconvenience is that you can’t access the administration control panel on your desktop, you have to login to their website.
Filtering Effectiveness:
Netmop uses the same filtering engine as WiseChoice, which is S4F. Overall, it did a good job at blocking keywords and blacklisted URLs. We did find one site where it said we were blocked, we clicked “ok” and it let us into the site anyway.
Summary:
This would be a good product for someone trying to break a pornography addiction because you give ultimate control of the administrative functions to Netmop.
